Gum Disease 101
Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is a condition usually caused by the bacteria found in plaque that damages the soft tissue that supports your teeth. This bacteria eating away at the soft tissues in your mouth will eventually cause your teeth to loosen, your gums to recede, and you can experience irritation, inflammation, and risk for infection if left untreated.
Signs of Gum Disease
Some signs to watch out for that could signal periodontal disease are gums that are swollen, red, tender, or bleed easily. You may also experience tooth loss, bad breath that doesn’t go away, receding gums, and sensitivity when you chew.
