Dr. Kunkel was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Spokane, Washington. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University and his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. After dental school, Dr. Kunkel completed a residency in general dentistry at the University of Utah where he
spent the year working closely with many dental specialists in a hospital setting. There he gained advanced training in the dental specialties, trauma, sedation, treatment of medically compromised and special needs patients and much more.
Dr. Kunkel returned to Spokane after his training and began practicing dentistry until he joined the Smiles Family Dental team early in 2007. He now lives in Clark County and maintains practices at the Hazell Dell, Longview, and Woodland Smiles offices. Dr. Kunkel enjoys practicing general dentistry, but really loves emergency visits, endodontics, oral surgery, treating kids and singing along to the radio sometimes.
Dr. Kunkel is married to a Rachelle, an Olympian from the 2004 Athens games. He and his wife have an eighteen month old little daredevil named Ryan. Dr. Kunkel likes spending his spare time with his family trying out all the parks and playgrounds in the area.
